ORIENTAL/JAPANESE BOOKBINDING STYLES




A one day Workshop with Jean Riley

Date: Saturday  29th September
10 am to 4 pm at the Bindery, Writers Centre, Callan Park Balmain Rd,   Rozelle
Course Fee:  $85 Includes all materials.
Places:  Minimum 5 Maximum 8

  • Skill Level:  for beginners upward,.
  •  You will learn how to back silk with paper for use in covering books.  
  • You will then be introduced to six different styles of oriental stitching for making books and will produce a set of small sample books in a protective case for future reference. 
  • Finally you will use your silk backed cloth and the sewing style of your choice to create your own oriental style book.  Full directions for the sewing styles will be given and these directions can be used in your final book

FIrst Workshops for 2012

We have three workshops arranged.


They are  suited  to all skill levels.

Some members have wanted to learn about using a printing press for years and now we offer a full introductory weekend with the people from Hill End press. 5/6 May





Jean Riley will teach an information  packed day class on japanese stab bindings and silk mounting. 28th July






Adrienne Allen will offer more insights into the messy and creative world of paste paper decoration. 28th April
